Konon, menurut legenda Persia, barang siapa memiliki sebuah jam pasir yang berisi Sands of Time (pasir waktu) akan mampu membalikkan waktu. Jam pasir ini adalah pemberian para dewa yang tak bisa dipergunakan sembarangan. Di tangan orang yang baik, jam pasir ini bisa mendatangkan kebaikan dan sebaliknya di tangan orang yang jahat maka kehancuran yang ditimbulkannya juga tidak terbayangkan.

Satu-satunya orang yang bisa mengeluarkan ‘pasir waktu’ ini dari dalam jam pasir adalah Dastan (Jake Gyllenhaal) yang memiliki Dagger of Time (belati waktu). Dastan, sang pangeran, bukanlah pria yang jahat namun dengan tipu daya sang wazir (Gisli Orn Gardarsson), Dastan akhirnya melepaskan ‘pasir waktu’ ini dan mengakibatkan kekacauan di mana-mana.

Seluruh kerajaan seketika musnah dan penghuninya berubah menjadi monster yang menakutkan. Kini keselamatan seluruh dunia berada di tangan Dastan. Ia harus berhasil mengembalikan ‘pasir waktu’ ini ke dalam jam pasir dan menghentikan kehancuran di muka bumi. Untungnya, Dastan sang pangeran tidak sendiri. Ada Putri Tamina (Gemma Arterton) yang bersedia membantunya dalam misi mulia ini.

Corporate salesman Steve Butler (Damon) arrives in a rural town with his sales partner, Sue Thomason (McDormand). What seems like an easy job for the duo becomes complicated by the objection of a respected schoolteacher (Holbrook) with support from a grassroots campaign led by another man (Krasinski) who counters Steve both personally and professionally.

Ringkasan Cerita DISTRICT 9 (2009) :

Penduduk bumi selalu yakin bahwa suatu saat nanti bumi pasti akan didatangi makhluk dari planet lain. Sebagian mengira bahwa pendatang ini akan berusaha menguasai bumi sementara tak sedikit juga yang beranggapan bahwa pendatang ini nantinya akan membawa teknologi baru untuk kemajuan penghuni bumi. Ternyata, saat para aliens ini datang, mereka justru adalah sekelompok pengungsi yang ingin mencari tempat berlindung.

Karena tak tahu harus berbuat apa, pemerintah terpaksa memberikan tempat berlindung di sebuah tempat di Afrika Selatan yang bernama District 9. Selama dua puluh delapan tahun para ‘pendatang’ ini dibiarkan tinggal di sana namun tak diijinkan membaur dengan manusia. Multi-National United (MNU) yang menangani masalah aliens ini berharap dapat mengeruk keuntungan besar dari persenjataan yang dibawa para aliens ini meski selama 28 tahun usaha itu sepertinya sia-sia.

Suatu ketika salah seorang petugas MNU yang bernama Wikus van der Merwe (Sharlto Copley) secara tak sengaja terkontaminasi virus dari salah satu senjata aliens ini dan secara perlahan struktur DNA-nya mulai berubah. Dalam waktu singkat Wikus menjadi orang yang paling dicari di muka bumi. MNU menganggap Wikus adalah kunci untuk membuka teknologi aliens ini dan tak ada lagi tempat buat Wikus untuk bersembunyi, kecuali di District 9.

Ialah Abraham Lincoln (Benjamin Walker) seorang pemuda yang tumbuh bersama dendam atas kematian ibunya. Dengan berbagai cara, Abe coba membunuh Jack Barts (Martin Csokas), vampir yang merenggut cerah pada masa depannya. Namun akibat kurang sigap, nyawa Abe sendiri malah menjadi taruhan. Beruntung ada Henry Sturgess (Dominic Cooper), pria yang menyelamatkan jiwa dan kemudian mengubah Abe menjadi pemburu vampir bersenjatakan kapak.

Usai menjadi pemburu Vampir paling disegani, Abe malah jatuh cinta dengan Mary Tood (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) dan mengikuti kancah politik hingga menjadi presiden. Sayang, setelah beberapa tahun memilih fokus sebagai pemimpin, sebuah peristiwa memaksa Abe untuk menggunakan kapaknya lagi dan membantai klan vampir hingga titik penghabisan.

Summer, 2008: John McCain secures the nomination, but polls behind Barack Obama. Strategist Steve Schmidt suggests a game changer: picking a conservative female with media savvy, unknown Alaska governor Sarah Palin, as vice president. She’s an immediate hit and a quick study – the gap closes.

Then, Tina Fey’s impersonation, a raft of criticism, and missing her family send Palin into a near-catatonic state: she doesn’t prepare for her Katie Couric interview and bombs. Schmidt searches for an answer: don’t expect her to learn the issues, but give her a script. Palin does well in the debate with Biden; she finds her voice, goes off script, and goes rogue. A mistake?
